Volleyball blanked in Blacksburg

The Virginia volleyball team traveled to Blacksburg Tuesday night to take on in-state rival Virginia Tech and suffered a 0-3 loss in its first conference game of the season.
The third set was close throughout, as it featured 13 tie scores and eight lead changes in the game. Senior middle Shannon Davis, who led the team with seven kills on the evening, was able to spark Virginia (8-5, 0-1 ACC) with back-to-back kills as part of a 10-4 run that knotted the score at 24-24. Virginia Tech (10-2, 1-0 ACC), however, answered back with a kill and a block to take the set and complete the sweep.
The win (25-27, 11-25, 24-26) gives the Hokies just their third victory in their last eight matches against Virginia, with all three victories coming at Cassell Coliseum. Last year each team won its home games.
The Cavaliers will look to rebound this weekend at home as they face Georgia Tech Friday and Clemson Saturday in Memorial Gymnasium.
