Former Virginia tailback Tiki Barber was elected to the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2011, filling out a class of seven legendary Virginia athletes, coaches and journalists voted on by the statewide Honors Court Committee.
Barber, a Roanoke, Va. native who graduated from the University in 1997, is the school's second all-time leading rusher. He was selected in the second round of the 1997 Draft by the New York Giants, with whom he launched a prolific nine-year professional career.
Originally intended to serve as a third-down, change-of-pace running back, Barber went on to become the Giants' all-time leading rusher. He gained the most yards from scrimmage of any back in the NFL between 2003-06 and retired as the Giants' all-time leader in receptions. He also was voted to three Pro Bowls and appeared in one Super Bowl during the course of his career.
The 40th Annual Induction Ceremony will be held April 30 at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel and Waterfront Conference Center.
