Virginia football coach Mike London announced Saturday that junior quarterback Greyson Lambert has been granted his release.
“I met with Greyson earlier this week and he explained to me his reasons for wishing to transfer,” London said. “I want to wish him well and appreciate everything he has done for our football program. He is a fine young man and will do well.”
Lambert enrolled at the University in January 2012 and redshirted during the subsequent season. The Jesup, Georgia native appeared in seven games during the 2013 campaign and started nine games for the Cavaliers in 2014, but he emerged as the backup to junior Matt Johns following the 2015 spring game.
In 16 contests, Lambert amassed 1,972 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 55.7 completion percentage.
Lambert has two years of eligibility remaining. He cannot transfer to any ACC program or any team on Virginia’s 2015 or 2016 schedule.
