Senior Haley Kole led the way in Virginia volleyball's wins over Louisville and Notre Dame this past weekend.

The Virginia volleyball team (7-21, 4-12 ACC) proved this weekend that they will not quit. The Cavaliers responded to a heartbreaking loss to Boston College last weekend with two road victories against Louisville (9-17, 4-12 ACC) in straight sets and Notre Dame (19-9, 10-6 ACC) in a thrilling five-set comeback win.

Virginia dominated its matchup against Louisville Friday, 3-0. Though the Cardinals kept each set close, the Cavaliers were able to stay poised to close out each set, something they have struggled with all season. Virginia was led by their dynamic duo of seniors Haley Kole and Jasmine Burton, who had 16 kills a piece en route to an efficient victory.

The Cavaliers showed tremendous fight against the Fighting Irish Sunday, rallying back from a 0-2 deficit to stun their heavily favored opponents 3-2. The team came out of the gate limping, allowing Notre Dame to get an easy 25-13 win in the first set, and fell behind in crunch time at the end of the second set.

In the third set, however, the team finally came together and slugged out a 25-23 victory to keep the game going. After winning the fourth set, Virginia outlasted the Irish 15-13 in an exciting tiebreak set to clinch an improbable victory. Kole and Burton once again took over the game with 19 kills each.

The Cavaliers showed the fight in them that coach Dennis Hosenshelt has been preaching to them all season and were rewarded with their first back-to-back wins since the first two games of the season.
