The Charlottesville Fire Department responded to a small fire at West Range Café just before 1 p.m. Monday.

Students received a University Emergency Email System alert at 12:56 p.m. telling them to avoid the area near Hotel E on McCormick Road where the West Range Café is located. For those who subscribe to U.Va. text alerts, one was also sent out at 1:20 p.m. also telling them to avoid the area.

At 2:04 p.m. the Emergency Email System and text alerts were used again to inform students and faculty that the incident had been cleared.

University spokesperson Anthony de Bruyn said in an email to The Cavalier Daily the fire was quickly extinguished by Charlottesville firefighters.

“There was no structural damage, and crews are cleaning the area,” de Bruyn said.

De Bruyn said the Health Department will inspect the facility prior to its re-opening.
