First-year student Joshua Richardson passes away

Richardson was a new member of the varsity swimming and diving team

Incoming first-year student Joshua Richardson passed away during Summer Session III, according to an email sent to the University community Monday night by Dean of Student Allen Groves.

Richardson was entering the University as a student-athlete on the varsity swimming and diving team. University Head Diving Coach Jason Glorius said Richardson “could do some crazy stuff on a trampoline and diving board” and “he was poised to really contribute to our program.”

The date and cause of Richardson’s death was not specified in the email.

He was originally from Mishawaka, Ind. and graduated from Marian High School last spring. He was the son of Mark and Linda Richardson and one of 11 children.

Groves said in his email that although Richardson was at the University for only a short time, he quickly made friends, even establishing a summer tradition of morning bagel runs.

Funeral arrangements for Richardson have not been made at this time.
