The No. 7 Virginia men’s soccer team will begin ACC Tournament play against Pittsburgh Wednesday night at home.

The Cavaliers (9-2-3, 3-2-2 ACC) were ranked fourth in the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Committee rankings Sunday, behind Wake Forest, Indiana and North Carolina. Seven of the top 10 teams in these rankings were in the ACC.

Virginia was scheduled to play North Carolina on the road Friday night in their regular season finale, but the match was canceled due to rain.

The Cavaliers are seeded No. 6 in the ACC Tournament for the third year in a row, while Pittsburgh (7-10, 2-6 ACC)  is seeded No. 1111 after losing to Notre Dame at home Saturday. This will be the two teams’ first-ever ACC Tournament meeting, but Virginia is 7-0-1 all-time against Pittsburgh and 5-0 in Charlottesville.

Pittsburgh sophomore forward Edward Kizza leads the ACC in goals with 13, and has scored a conference-high five goals against ACC opponents.

The Cavaliers and Panthers last played each other Sept. 28, a game that saw Virginia claim a 2-0 win in Pittsburgh. Freshman forward Cabrel Happi Kamseu and freshman center back Aboubacar Keita both scored.

Four Virginia starters started all four ACC Tournament games for the Cavaliers last season — junior defender Robin Afamefuna, sophomore center midfielder Joe Bell, senior center back Prosper Figbe and sophomore winger Nathaniel Crofts.

Wednesday’s match will kick off at 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.
