From decarbonizing healthcare to creating earthquake-resilient architecture, research projects led by the University’s Environmental Resilience Institute focus on understanding humans’ role in the natural world. Moving forward, the center has been renamed the Environmental Institute to better encompass its expanded mission — helping combat climate change through student and community engagement.

U.Va. Health announced Friday that there will be masking and visitation policies will be more relaxed beginning April 18. The areas in which face masks are optional will be expanded to include administrative and outpatient centers, and University Medical Center visitation policies will return to those in place before the pandemic.

President of August Medical Group Dr. J. Scott Just was appointed Monday as the new chief executive officer of the University of Virginia Physicians Group. Just will be taking over the role from J. Corey Feist, who stepped down Dec. 31, 2021.

Marco Centanaro Garcia, rising fourth-year Commerce student and outgoing president of U.Va. FoodAssist, and rising third-year College student Garreth Bartholomew recently proposed the creation of a food union at the University on behalf of students passionate about food justice and sustainability. Composed of the student leaders of each food-focused CIO, the union would meet a few times a semester to coordinate food-related goals for the University.
