Just under two months ago, a discouraged Virginia women’s lacrosse team walked off the field at Klöckner Stadium to the sound of the halftime buzzer. The score was 4-9 in favor of Duke, and although the Cavaliers (12-7, 5-4 ACC) had cut the deficit from six to five, it seemed an impossible task to complete the comeback.

Saturday afternoon at the Virginia Tennis Facility, No. 7 seed Virginia defeated No. 10 seed Arizona 4-2 to punch its ticket to the NCAA quarterfinals for the 18th time in the last 20 years. With a final home victory behind them, the Cavaliers (23-7, 9-4 ACC) will look ahead to Waco, Texas, where they will face No. 2 seed TCU Friday at 5 p.m. at Baylor’s Hurd Tennis Center.

In most other seasons, Saturday’s thrilling walk-off victory would have taken the pressure off of a weekend. The win clinched the series against a red-hot Miami team, giving Virginia a second consecutive series win over a quality ACC opponent.

After a dynamic 6-1 victory in the series opener, Virginia looked to continue to build on its four-game winning streak in a crucial matchup against Miami Saturday afternoon. Despite falling behind early to the Hurricanes (30-20, 14-11 ACC), the Cavaliers (29-16, 13-10 ACC) relied on clutch offensive performances and an excellent bullpen effort to battle back to a 10-9 victory.

The No. 7 Virginia women’s tennis team saw its promising season come to a disappointing end Friday afternoon in a 4-0 loss to No. 10 Tennessee in the NCAA Championship Round of 16. At the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville, in a rematch of a February meeting at ITA Indoors that Virginia won 4-2, the No. 10 Lady Vols turned the tables with a dominant performance to advance to the quarterfinals.

Following a more than two week hiatus from play, Virginia women’s lacrosse was back in action Friday afternoon, as the Cavaliers (12-6, 5-4 ACC) began their quest for national glory at Klöckner Stadium with a dominant 20-6 victory over LIU. Virginia left no room for doubt in its NCAA Tournament opener, swiftly dispatching the Sharks (12-7, 8-1 NEC) with superior play on both ends of the field.

Following an electric three-game winning streak in midweek games across the last fortnight, the Cavaliers looked to continue their late-season resurgence in their return to conference play Friday night against Miami. Virginia (28-16, 12-10 ACC), which entered the matchup in Baseball America’s “Next Four Out” designation for the upcoming NCAA Tournament, was in dire need of a victory.

After a six-day hiatus for exams, Virginia baseball returned to the friendly confines of Disharoon Park for a Wednesday evening clash against Towson. It was business as usual for the Cavaliers (27-16, 11-10 ACC), as they picked up a seventh win over their past eight games. Virginia put up double-digit runs on the scoreboard for the 16th time in 2025, as the Cavaliers incinerated the Tigers (19-31, 9-12 Colonial Athletic Association) 19-1.

Junior Måns Dahlberg always plays his best tennis later in the year. That has been a pattern since he arrived at Virginia — he has slow starts to the season through January, February and March but puts it all together in April and May.

The bracket and seeding for the ACC Championship was revealed Saturday, and Virginia softball earned the seventh seed, a three-spot drop from their position last season. Play will begin Wednesday in Brighton, Mass., with Virginia’s first game coming against No. 10 Louisville at 5 p.m.

Police responded to calls of shots fired at the Rotunda around 4:30 a.m. Monday, where they discovered a deceased male who appeared to have died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds, according to University Spokesperson Bethanie Glover. As the top seed, the Cavaliers took full advantage of home-court play at the Virginia Tennis Facility, sweeping Fairleigh Dickinson 4-0 Friday before taking Illinois 4-1 in a more tightly contested match Saturday. The Board of Visitors voted Tuesday to formally rescind portions of its 2020 resolution that supported setting numerical goals for increasing racial diversity among students and faculty. The decision was made in closed session during a special meeting at the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville and follows the Board’s March vote to dissolve the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Community Partnerships per President Donald Trump’s executive order.

Student Council representatives unanimously passed a resolution during Tuesday’s final general body meeting of the semester, approving the Summer 2025 budget of $67,642. The Council also passed a resolution approving 14 Contracted Independent Organizations and heard an announcement of the Student Council representatives who will be serving as chair pro-tempore, chair of community concerns and chair of internal affairs for the 2025-2026 term.

Dr. Daniel Flannery, Case Western Reserve University professor and director of the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education — a non profit research center dedicated to social justice and violence prevention — presented his research and perspective on the impact on mental health and violence to University students Friday in Ridley Hall. Flannery discussed the cycle of violence from adolescence to adulthood, and the correlation between unrestricted gun access and mass violence.

The University is a prestigious place, home to dozens of world-renowned academic programs — and one of the nation’s top athletic departments. All students interact with the academic component, of course. As for sports, some students engage deeply with Virginia Athletics, while others seldom cross paths with it. In the middle of that spectrum, however, is a set of students who say that their time at the University strengthened their preexisting but smaller relationship with sports.

After narrowly securing a 9-8 victory over VCU Tuesday, Virginia’s goal Wednesday was to win in less dramatic fashion. The pitching staff delivered, holding Navy to one run en route to a 5-1 win. Led by junior pitcher Chris Arroyo, the two-way player making his second start of the season, the Cavaliers (26-16, 11-10 ACC) had no trouble handling the Midshipmen (23-23, 14-11) at home.
