Virginia football has only started 8-1 twice in program history. One of those times was in 1990, and the other is 2025. The difference this season is that Coach Tony Elliott has his Cavaliers sitting in first place in the ACC, with a 5-0 start to ACC play.

In their penultimate regular season game, No. 4 Virginia field hockey found themselves locked in a defensive slugfest Tuesday night at Turf Field. The Cavaliers (13-1, 6-1, ACC) faced off against No. 11 Maryland, attempting to extend their win streak to four after dropping their first and only loss of the season to North Carolina Oct. 10.

When graduate defender Sebastian Pop snuck in a tenth-minute, go-ahead goal against UNC Greensboro Oct. 14, Klöckner Stadium and Virginia’s sideline exploded. But this goal was notable beyond just the scoreline — it marked another instance of Pop’s growing imprint on a Virginia team trying to make a deep postseason run. Camera shutters will click, the brass band will blare, students will sway, the lights will go low. For a split second Monday, John Paul Jones Arena will feel familiar. Then that sense will quickly snap when 12 unfamiliar faces sprint out onto the court.

When Halloween parties give way to the Sunday scaries and the perfectly-curated costumes find their way back into storage boxes, one sweet holiday treat remains — leftover Halloween candy. From young trick-or-treaters fresh off their parade around the Lawn to University students helping themselves to an assorted fun-size mix from the Corner CVS, it seems that nearly everyone winds up with a pile of extras haunting the kitchen counter. But fear not — there are many delicious desserts you can make that will save you from the monotony of snacking on the same leftover candies you’ve had all season. Here are three of my favorites.

The new-look Virginia basketball is here, teeming with size, shooting and offensive firepower.
