It’s no secret that in recent years, transferring in collegiate athletics has grown in popularity. The football team, in particular, has seen its fortunes tied to the transfer market.
Competing fresh off the Virginia Challenge — one of the most nationally competitive outdoor track and field meets of the year — a limited representation of the Virginia outdoor track and field teams competed at the Highlander Invitational at Radford, Va. this past weekend.

The No. 5 seeded Virginia women’s lacrosse team will begin its postseason this Thursday against No. 4 seeded Duke in the quarterfinals of the ACC women’s lacrosse tournament.
After a final ACC loss to No. 14 Duke just two weeks ago, the Virginia lacrosse team was slated to play in the ACC-Brown challenge in Kennesaw, Ga. Now, the challenge aspect of the game, which is taking place as an alternative to the ACC Tournament, comes literally to the Cavaliers (7-7, 0-4 ACC), who will be taking on the No. 2 Bears (12-1, 5-0 Ivy League).
Seeking their tenth straight ACC title, the top-ranked team in the nation, the Virginia men’s tennis team, traveled down to the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C., this past weekend. The team won the ACC regular season championship, but knew this tournament would be a struggle, as they did not win the regular season nearly as convincingly as they had in past years. However, the Cavaliers fell short of winning their tenth-straight ACC title.
This past weekend, 62 teams and over 1,200 athletes gathered in Charlottesville to participate in the Virginia Challenge — one of the most competitive meets of the season. That didn’t deter the Virginia outdoor track and field teams, though. The Cavaliers embraced the competition and their tenacious attitude led to another successful meet for the teams.
This second-place finish was the best finish for the team in almost a decade, according to the team’s website. The University was one of just six colleges this year to have both their A and B teams qualify for and compete in the national championship.

The Virginia men’s golf team will begin postseason play when they participate in the ACC Tournament starting Friday at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C.
The Virginia Mock Trial Team traveled to Greenville, S.C. April 15 to participate in the 2016 National Mock Trial Championship hosted by Furman University. The team came in second place this year out of 48 teams from colleges all over the country.
On a blustery Saturday evening two weeks ago, the Virginia track and field teams wrapped up their first home meets of the season with their heads held high. Collectively, they had broken many school and personal records, won a plethora of events and continued coalescing as a team.
The No. 3 Virginia women’s rowing team won 12 of 15 races this weekend at the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell in S.C. The Cavaliers competed against 20 teams over three sessions of racing with seven of them in the top-20 — No. 4 Ohio State, No. 8 Texas, No. 10 Michigan, No. 13 Indiana, No. 14 Washington State, No. 19 Syracuse, and No. 20 Louisville.
It was a busy weekend of tennis at the Snyder Courts, as both the Virginia men and women’s tennis teams played matches Friday and Sunday.

Rowing
The Virginia lacrosse team left Kenan Stadium Sunday afternoon with an empty feeling — yet another conference loss — the third time this season. With their 16-8 loss to No. 11 North Carolina, the Cavaliers (6-6, 0-3 ACC) dropped out of the national rankings and returned to a .500 record.
Wednesday night, the NBA’s Golden State Warriors play the Memphis Grizzlies at Oracle Arena in Oakland with a record-setting 73-win season for the taking. In the spotlight all year long, Stephen Curry and his teammates might just do what no one has done before.
