After an exceptional performance in the Chitengwa Memorial Tournament hosted at home in Charlottesville, No. 16 Virginia men’s golf traveled to Pinehurst, N.C., to compete in the ACC Tournament at the Golf Club of North Carolina.

At first glance, freshman golfer Ben James might seem like the average player who spends his weekend afternoons with friends trying to earn his first hole-in-one. Even though he’s still seeking this elusive achievement, James has spent his first year at Virginia succeeding in just about every other way, more resembling a PGA Tour professional than a 19-year-old college student. However, James has been ahead of the curve for a while.

To wrap up its regular season, No. 21 Virginia men’s golf hosted the second annual Lewis Chitengwa Memorial tournament Monday and Tuesday. The Cavaliers dominated the invitational once again, coming in second place this year following their first-place win at the inaugural event in 2022.

No. 19 Virginia women’s golf traveled to Raleigh, N.C. Monday and Tuesday to close out its regular season at NC State’s Wolfpack Match Play event. Competing at the Lonnie Pool Golf Course, the team cruised to a win against Louisville in the consolation bracket.

Following a disappointing eighth place performance at the Linger Longer Invitational, No. 22 Virginia men’s golf traveled to Augusta, Ga. to play the 43rd edition of the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club. This tournament was held in the same city where the Masters, the first major of the year for the PGA Tour, will begin in less than one week. After a hot start, the Cavaliers finished third in the tournament.

Following an impressive second-place finish at the General Hackler Championship, No. 16 Virginia men’s golf traveled to Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee, Ga. to play in the Linger Longer Invitational Sunday through Tuesday. After a hot start, the Cavaliers finished 8th in the tournament.

No. 16 Virginia men’s golf team competed at the 22nd General Hackler Championship Monday and Tuesday following a fifth-place finish in last year’s tournament. The players traveled to the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The team earned second place in the 14-team field that included strong opponents such as No. 5 Auburn, No. 29 North Florida and No. 36 Duke.

This weekend, No. 5 Virginia men’s squash traveled to the 2023 College Squash Association National Collegiate Men’s Squash Team Championships at the Ferris Athletic Center in Hartford, Conn. The Cavaliers (13-7) were unsuccessful in the final team event of the year, losing all three matches to Yale, Cornell and Princeton.

No. 5 Virginia women’s squash traveled to Philadelphia, Pa. this past weekend to compete in the 2023 National Collegiate Women’s Team Squash Championships. The Cavaliers (13-7) competed in the Howe Championship bracket, the top bracket for the CSA tournament, for the second consecutive year. Although the squad only finished fourth, it was the best finish in program history.

Following a seventh place finish at the Windy City Collegiate Classic, Virginia women’s golf traveled to Stanford, Calif. to play in the Stanford Intercollegiate. In their last event of the fall season, the Cavaliers fought against a challenging 19-team field before ultimately finishing in sixth place overall.

A report released last week revealed systemic sexual misconduct and abuse in the National Women’s Soccer League. The investigation was set in motion after former NWSL players Mana Shim and Sinead Farrelly — the latter of whom played for the Virginia women’s soccer team from 2007 to 2010 — came forth with allegations of sexual assault against former NWSL coach Paul Riley in September 2021.

Virginia women’s golf will start their season Monday, as the No. 10 Cavaliers look to compete against the best the sport has to offer during their year-round season. Coach Ria Scott released the 2022-23 schedule in late July, which includes eight regular season events and a trip to Mexico for the Guadalajara Country Club Collegiate Invitational.

Virginia women’s golf continued their postseason success in the NCAA Regional Tournament at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich. this week from Monday through Wednesday. The Cavaliers, with a second place finish, moved on to the NCAA Championships for the 12th time in program history.

After a strong 5-1 win against Georgia in their final competition of the regular season, the Cavaliers made it through the first two days of stroke play competition of the ACC Championships at the Reserve Golf Club in Pawleys Island, S.C. before falling to No. 4 Wake Forest in match play. This was Virginia’s 18th appearance at the ACC Championships with wins in 2015 and 2016 and several runner-up titles.

After finishing third in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, the No. 7 Virginia women’s golf team tied for eighth in the PING/ASU Invitational at the Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, AZ.
