Amid the uncertainty surrounding the circumstances of the 2020-21 college basketball season, No. 4 Virginia is finally set to begin their season next week in “Bubbleville” — a season-opening event designed to keep coaches and players safe during the safety hazards presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these precautions, Virginia has already experienced a scheduling change — the team’s Friday matchup with Florida was canceled after the Gators paused athletic activities because of COVID-19 issues. Even with a non-conference schedule shortened by four games, the Cavaliers will face one of the program’s most daunting schedules in recent years, highlighted by several marquee non-conference matchups.

Virginia men’s soccer took down No. 2 Wake Forest Sunday night 2-0 in the ACC tournament quarterfinals in Winston-Salem N.C. The fourth-seeded Cavaliers (3-3-1, 2-3-1 ACC) upset the top-seeded Demon Deacons (7-2-0, 5-1-0 ACC) with two goals from junior forward Cabrel Happi Kamseu.

Virginia men’s soccer took down Syracuse 1-0 Friday night at Klockner Stadium thanks to a late penalty kick by sophomore defender Andreas Ueland. In posting their first shutout of the year, the Cavaliers (2-2-1, 2-2-1 ACC) were able to avoid a third consecutive loss on the season.

No. 5 Virginia men’s soccer opened its 2020 season with 2-1 double-overtime victory against Louisville Friday night. With 1:05 remaining in the second period of overtime, a golden goal penalty kick by sophomore forward Philip Horton gave the Cavaliers (1-0, 1-0 ACC) their 300th win at Klockner Stadium since its opening in 1992.

Only six games into its 2020 campaign, Virginia men’s lacrosse — along with the rest of winter and spring collegiate sports — saw its season come to a jarring halt. While the NCAA is set to allow current seniors to return for an extra year of eligibility, it is tough not to wonder what this year’s men’s lacrosse team could have been.

No. 15 Virginia men’s swimming and diving put together a strong week in Greensboro N.C. at the ACC Championships and finished as the conference runner-up. In the team’s best finish since 2013, the Cavaliers totalled 1,098 points during the week — only behind No. 5 NC State’s 1,250 points as the Wolfpack claimed their sixth consecutive conference title.
