Coach Bowen Sargent’s lengthy tenure at the helm of Virginia’s men’s golf program has been decorated with consistent success. The program has reached an NCAA Regional for 17 straight seasons, achieved the nation’s No. 1 ranking multiple times and put three players on the PGA Tour. But of all his 21 seasons with Virginia, this one was his most accomplished by a long shot.

The Board of Visitors’ Audit, Compliance and Risk Committee met in both open and closed sessions Friday. In open session, the Committee met to approve the University’s internal audit plans for the fiscal years 2026 and 2027 and hear remarks regarding the progress of the fiscal year 2025 auditing process and the use of artificial intelligence at the University. The board then transitioned into closed session.

The Board of Visitors Committee on the College at Wise met Friday morning to discuss enrollment growth, and Wise representatives shared updates on academic programs, housing and community events which have occurred this spring.

The University Judiciary Committee adjudicated 15 cases, all involving individuals, from Jan. 1 to May 10. The Committee released its Spring 2025 Statistics Report to the University community June 4, which detailed cases including 11 alleged violations of Standard 2 — conduct which intentionally or recklessly threatens health and safety — and five alleged violations of Standard 1 — physical assault. 10 pending cases remain on the docket to be processed in the fall.

The Board of Visitors’ Academic and Student Life Committee met Thursday to hear presentations from Interim Provost Brie Gertler, current and former Student Council presidents, and student participants in the University’s Internship Placement Program. The Committee also heard from the incoming men’s basketball Coach Ryan Odom.

The Board of Visitors Buildings and Grounds Committee unanimously approved changes to the 2025 Major Capital Plan Thursday, which will total $1.85 billion — down from $2.06 billion in 2024. This decrease comes from the deferral of 12 previously authorized capital projects which would have totaled an additional $329 million but were removed from the 2025 plan due to insufficient funding sources.

The Board of Visitors’ Health System Board reported Thursday that two recent anonymous $25 million donations have put U.Va. Health over their $1 billion goal for the Honor the Future fundraising campaign. The Board also discussed the goals and vision of the Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology and voted to approve the fiscal year 2026 operating budget.

Sunday night, Coach Brian O’Connor was named the head coach at Mississippi State as confirmed through a team message shared with The Cavalier Daily. It was, to many, a shocking move. Many couldn’t help but think of the fact that Virginia recently lost another legendary coach, Tony Bennett of men’s basketball, just eight months ago to retirement.

To attend a University where every student knows the president's name is uncommon. To attend a University where the student body holds its president in such high regard and admiration is a noteworthy phenomenon. That being said, to attend a University where alumni think they should have the ability to fire the president at will, is something different altogether.

This past weekend, Virginia rowing capped off a season of transformation and perseverance with a 10th place finish at the NCAA Rowing Championships on Lake Mercer, N.J. In their first NCAA appearance under Coach Wesley Ng, the Cavaliers showed both strength and grit, proving they could hold their own on the national stage and finishing three spots higher than their 13th-place finish from the year before.
