'Music Speaks'

Success of American Idol winner “Speaks” for itself

Though “American Idol” ratings were at an all-time low last season, “Idol” champion Candice Glover brought undeniable talent to the show. Glover’s debut album “Music Speaks” validates her victory on the show. Her soulful style and impeccable vocal range prove that this time, America made the right decision in selecting a winner.

Her album chronicles the trials and tribulations that all couples face. Glover’s powerful debut is not only a testament to her talent — lead single “I am beautiful” is an anthem all about empowering women. Glover does not hold back, pouring her heart into this track and beautifully describing the love a man has for his girlfriend.

“Cried” is another memorable song on the album about her feelings after a breakup. The sound of Glover’s distress is heartbreaking, and her agony is relatable to any girl who has experienced love and loss.

The tone picks up with “In The Middle,” an upbeat and edgy song with a Caribbean feel. The lyrics are playful and fun: “There’s a special place for you in my heart/ding-a-ling-a-ling, gyal make me sing/You do yo thing to me.” Glover’s melodies and range demonstrate her versatility and bring the song to life.

Glover continues to show that R&B is not a dead genre. Her talents are an obvious asset to the music industry. Glover’s beautiful voice is unforgettable and the success of her music does indeed speak for itself.
