Senators heard from Jim Lambert, faculty representative to the Board of Visitors, who discussed the Board’s one-day meeting March 5.
During an open forum discussion period at the meeting, Senate leadership discussed a potential resolution brought forth by Senate members, which would call for the Board to rescind its March 2025 resolution to dissolve the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
The decision to cancel classes comes as much of the East Coast is under severe weather alerts Monday, with wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour expected.
Ten newly-appointed members and the remaining seven selected Carlos Brown as rector Feb. 20.
The Buildings and Grounds Committee oversees maintenance and construction of University buildings and is responsible for matters related to the University’s land use.
The Faculty Senate met Friday to discuss Americans with Disabilities Act compliance requirements, Senate priorities for the academic year and youth protection requirements for faculty.
Throughout the discussion, panelists focused on the economic impacts of immigration. Schoer said in an opening statement that he believes immigration has a net positive impact on the United States.
Wade was reelected to the City Council by voters in November and was reappointed as mayor by fellow City Council members last month.
In his first meeting with the Faculty Senate as president, Beardsley introduced himself and provided an update on his work during the first several weeks of his term.
The three participating panelists also considered the role of politics in education and attitudes towards diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in education and the workforce.
