Volleyball's Cup runneth over after 3-0 weekend

The Virginia volleyball team started its match against Alabama Saturday night as if the Cavs had somewhere important to be that evening. In the final game of the annual Jefferson Cup Tournament, hosted by the Cavaliers, coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton's squad jumped out to a commanding 8-0 lead in the first game.

After capturing their first victory of the 1999 season against Virginia Tech Wednesday night, the Virginia volleyball team prepares to host the annual Jefferson Cup Tournament this weekend at University Hall. The Cavaliers will play a total of three games in the tournament, facing Ohio today and both Furman and Alabama tomorrow. "The Jefferson Cup is also is a 'come out and show everything we got' series," middle blocker Deanna Zwarich said.

Wilk leads adjusting team

After consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances, the Virginia field hockey team will rely on seasoned veterans, coupled with the enthusiasm of nine new recruits and an new coaching staff, to continue their winning ways this season. The foremost change on the Cavalier field hockey team is coach Jessica Wilk, who stepped up from the assistant coaching position she has held since 1993.
