The Virginia crew team won the open four race and finished fifth in the open eight race at the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J., on Sunday.

The Cavaliers' open four boat handily beat Columbia by 25.86 seconds for first place with a time of 16 minutes, 17.29 seconds. Princeton finished third, followed by Dartmouth and Radcliffe. Virginia's "B" boat placed sixth and its "C" boat finished 10th.

In the open eight, the Cavaliers trailed Princeton, Yale, Radcliffe and Columbia with a time of 14:55.40. Virginia's "B" boat finished two behind the "A" boat in seventh with a time of 15:01.

BCS keeps Sooners and Huskers in top two spots

Even with a loss, Oklahoma is still the choice over Miami in the Bowl Championship Series computer - but just barely.

Nebraska (9-0) replaced Oklahoma in first place in the new Bowl Championship Series standings released yesterday after its 20-10 win over the Sooners. Despite Saturday's loss, Oklahoma (7-1) was second, .12 points ahead of Miami (6-0).

  • The Hurricanes, ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press media poll and USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll, moved from fourth to third after a 45-3 win over West Virginia on Thursday night. The Huskers and Sooners are ranked 2-3 in the AP media poll and coaches' poll.

    The final BCS standings will be released Dec. 9.
