Virginia juniors Kiamesha Otey and Eliese Mitchell will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field championships. Otey, who is ranked fifth nationally in the long jump, had a personal best 6.39 meter jump when she qualified for that event. Mitchell set a school record in the 20-pound weight throw at 20.06 meters.
Mitchell broke the school record Feb. 23 at the Last Chance meet in Blacksburg. She broke her own personal throw by more than four feet with the qualifying toss. There have been only eight other college athletes to break the 20 meter mark this season.

Otey also fared well at the Blacksburg meet as she beat her own career long jump by 7.5 inches. For the season, her jump is ranked fifth best in the country.
Dennis earns ACC softball weekly honors
All-American Virginia softball pitcher Kristen Dennis was selected as the ACC player of the week for the second week in a row. Dennis pitched in two games compiling two wins, while hitting .571 to lead the Cavaliers to the Cavalier Classic title with a 4-0 record.
Dennis, who was a second team All-American in 2001 as a junior, pitched a three-hitter March 2 against Tennessee to help secure the Classic title. She is 6-1 on the year with an 0.15 ERA.
