Hundreds of students claiming symptoms similar to those attributed to food poisoning fell sick at Boston University last weekend.Four students were reportedly hospitalized.
Symptoms included intense vomiting, fevers, body aches, and extreme dehydration.
Although BU dining officials refused to comment on the matter, many of the sick students attributed their illness to having eaten in BU's "Towers" dining facility Friday and Saturday nights.
A doctor at the Boston Medical Institute diagnosed one student with "viral gastroenteritis."
The fact that students who fell sick all consumed a broad range of foods at the Towers, and that some of the students who fell sick ate in other campus dining facilities, is making investigation of the mass-sickness difficult.
"There is sickness spreading like wildfire," BU Freshman Emily House said. "BU personnel are making sure that it is not food poisoning."
