Virginia soccer player Mike Littlefield was named the ACC Player of the Week yesterday. Littlefield scored two game-winning goals this week, first in the Cavaliers' defeat of Mount Saint Mary's and then in their upset of fourth-ranked North Carolina.
The two goals, both headers, were the first and second of the season for Littlefield, in addition to their being the first and second of his Virginia career.
The junior forward, originally from Manassas, Va., transferred to Virginia from Coastal Carolina prior to this season. Littlefield recorded 16 goals last year at Costal Carolina, four of them game-winners.
Littlefield is part of a triumvirate tied for the team lead in points scored (4), goals scored (2) and game-winning goals scored (2) this season for Virginia.
This is the second straight Player of the Week honor for the Cavalier squad. Freshman forward Adam Christman was recognized last week after scoring the game-winning goal in Virginia's 2-1 win over No.3 Wake Forest on September 13. The victories over the Demon Deacons and the Tarheels brought the Cavaliers to a perfect record in the ACC and a 4-2 mark overall.
