One death, five injuries occur at Va. Tech party

An off-campus party at Virginia Tech Sunday evening resulted in the death of one student, who fell out of a third-story window. Five other individuals -- including another Tech student -- also were injured when they fell from the same window.

Blacksburg Police told the Associated Press some guests at the party were "slamdancing" and bumping into other partygoers. Other individuals subsequently were pushed through a window and onto a concrete patio below.

Daniel Martin, a 19-year-old economics major from Emerald Isle, N.C., died at Montgomery Regional Hospital as a result of the accident.

The name of the other Virginia Tech student has not been released. Of the other four injured individuals, one has been named -- 21-year-old Jason Kontkanen, a Manassas Park native, who remains in critical condition at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
