U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III ruled Wednesday that Virginia colleges and Universities may deny admission to illegal aliens, The Washington Post reported yesterday. The ruling was in response to a lawsuit against seven Virginia schools for violating immigrant rights by refusing them admission.
The ruling goes against a recent trend in which several schools have allowed illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition rates at public colleges.
Virginia Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore (R) defended the schools, including the University of Virginia, Northern Virginia Community College, Virginia Tech, the College of William and Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, George Mason University and James Madison University. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Alexandria in September.
