Virginia Track and Field Athletes Capture Medals at National Open

Saturday in State College, Pa., several members of the Virginia track and field team improved on their best personal performances, taking medals at the National Open.

Hosted by Penn State University, the indoor event featured some of the top-ranked athletes on the East Coast. For the second time in two weeks, Virginia's McGavock Dunbar won the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 50.88 seconds, the fastest performance in the ACC so far this season. Teammate Mike Riso took home the gold medal in the high jump competition to move into the top five in the ACC, and Caroline Harvey leaped a season-best distance in the long jump to move into the top four in the ACC.

Kellen Blassingame completed the 400-meter run in 47.82 seconds, the second-best time in the ACC this season and moved into eighth all-time at Virginia in the event.
