Student Council President-elect Noah Sullivan is not the only student of that surname set to hold a high-ranking office next year. At its annual retreat this past weekend, the Honor Committee elected its new executive committee, selecting third-year College student Meghan Sullivan to lead the Committee as chair.
"We're going to get to work with an incredible group next year," Sullivan said. "The executive committee is probably one of the most experienced in recent history, and hopefully we're going to take on a lot of really great projects."
Third-year Engineering student and returning Committee member Nick Staubach will serve as vice-chair for trials. Rounding out the new executive committee are second-year College student David Hobbs as vice-chair for investigations and second-year Law student Lorre Luther as vice-chair for services. The new vice-chair for education has yet to be decided.
Sullivan has three years of experience with Honor under her belt. She has been a support officer since her first year and most recently served as a pre-trial coordinator.
Staubach said he is optimistic about next year's Committee.
"I'm ecstatic," Staubach said. "I'm very excited to be a part of the executive committee. I think we have a whole lot of experience and talent to work with this year, and we're going to be able to make a big difference."
Hobbs agreed, saying he thinks the Committee is equipped to make a positive impact at the University next year.
Members of the new executive committee said they would like to address a number of issues next year.
Sullivan emphasized improving faculty support as a top goal for next year.
"First and foremost we hope to improve our interaction with the faculty and to start very positive dialogue with faculty members," Sullivan said.
Sullivan named student outreach as another important issue the Committee would like to address.
"I think reaching out to the student body as a whole, inviting them to our meetings, and increasing their sense of ownership in the honor system is a goal for me and a goal -- I think -- for the entire Committee," she said.
Hobbs stressed the importance of education.
"An overreaching goal of education is making sure that every member of the University community feels that honor is an integral part of their education here," Hobbs said.
Outgoing Committee Chair Carey Mignerey said next year's Committee will benefit from the experience of its newly-elected executive committee members.
"This executive committee is very experienced with the honor system already," Mignerey said. "That will be an asset for the Committee next year because they're aware of the major issues facing the Committee. They'll be able to hit the ground running and make positive changes very quickly."
Luther could not be reached for comment yesterday.
