The University's Raven Society will commemorate its 100th anniversary Saturday in a black tie event, attended by over 600 of the Society's members.
"We are very excited to be making our 100th anniversary," Raven Society President Cameron Howell said in a University press release. "The society has been working toward this occasion for the past two years, and we are especially looking forward to hosting University alumni who will return to Charlottesville for this event."
The main goal of the society is to bring together a membership of students, faculty and alumni devoted to the University and its community.
Each year the Society presents the Raven Fellowship grant of $1,000 to $2,500 to a University student for research purposes. They also present the Raven Award to recognize members of the University community.
In addition, the Society works to preserve the room at 13 West Range that poet Edgar Allen Poe lived in while attending the University during the 1826 academic year.
