Four University students are among the 310 recipients of the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship, according to University Media Relations.
The University is allowed to nominate four candidates. This year, all four were selected, including third-year College student Brenda N. Goguen, third-year Engineering student Arsalan Tavakoli-Shiraji, third-year College student Margaret E. Samra and second-year College student Yogesh Surendranath.
The scholarship winners will receive up to $7,500 per year for one to two years of undergraduate education to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books and room and board.
The scholarship program is offered to students pursuing careers in engineering, mathematics and natural sciences.
The Goldwater Foundation was established in 1986 and is a federally endowed agency that has awarded 4,272 scholarships worth approximately $42 million.
