2005 ACC Leadership Conference to be held at University

The University will host the 10th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Leadership Conference in February.

The event is expected to draw about 80 athletes and student leaders from the 11 ACC member schools.

This year's conference is likely to focus on how schools can bridge the academic performance gap between NCAA athletes and the student body at large. It will include a formal dinner in the Rotunda and tours of the Downtown Mall and feature several University faculty members and professors, according to Student Council College Rep. Tom Gibson, the main logistics organizer for the conference.

This year will be the first time the University will host the conference, making it one of the last of the ACC schools to do so. Preparations for the event are ongoing. Event organizers have already raised $12,000, and more fundraising is underway.

Organizers said they are confident that the upcoming conference will be the best and biggest yet.
