Field hockey earns pair of victories in Massachusetts

The Virginia women's field hockey team won both of its games this weekend, bringing its record to 5-1.

Friday night the Cavaliers answered all three of Boston College's goals, finally one-upping the Eagles 4-3.

The game-winning goal was scored by junior Katie Phillips, who also had one assist in the victory. Junior Allison Flynn put the first and third goals in the back of the cage and sophomore Biffy Cornelison brought the two teams to a tie with the third goal.

Keeper Logan Carr also played a pivotal role in the win by making her fifth save of the game in the last few minutes to ward off an Eagles comeback.

The Cavaliers dominated yesterday's game against Quinnipiac, outshooting the Bobcats 14-3 and winning 4-1.

The Virginia defense held off the Bobcats for the first 35 minutes of the game, during which the Cavaliers did not allow a single shot. The Cavaliers scored only one in the first half, but put two in the back of the cage within 36 seconds of each other in the second half to gain the significant lead.
