Softball opens fall season at Penn State

Virginia softball kicks off its 2004-2005 campaign this weekend when the team travels to State College, Pa. to compete in the Penn State Fall Softball Tournament.

The Cavaliers will take on St. Francis tomorrow at 3 p.m. and then return to action tomorrow night at 5 p.m. against the host Nittany Lions. They will play a second doubleheader Sunday morning against Lock Haven at 9 a.m. and Pittsburgh at 11 a.m.

After finishing 38-26 last season, the Cavaliers added freshmen Kathryn Mirras, Karla Wilburn, Lindsey Preuss, Whitney Holstun and Kierstie Cameron. Following this weekend's tournament, Virginia will play in the Cavalier Fall Classic Oct. 2-3 and the Virginia Tech Fall Tournament Oct. 8-9 before ending the fall season

Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
