William M. Shobe has been selected as the next director of economic and business research at the University's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, according to a University news release.
Shobe succeeds John L. Knapp, who retired in June and will continue to work on special projects at the Center.

The business and economics section of the Cooper Center performs a variety of research on Virginia economics, according to its Web site.
Shobe received a law degree from Lewis and Clark Law School in 1980 and a doctorate in economics from the University of Minnesota in 1991, according to the news release. He has taught at several universities, including Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University.
