For the first time since the 2000 season, the Virginia volleyball team won its first ACC game of the year with a 3-0 (30-26, 30-28, 30-26) victory over the Demon Deacons Friday night in Winston-Salem, N.C. With the straight set victory, the Cavaliers snapped their six-game losing streak to Wake Forest.
Virginia returned to the court Sunday afternoon with a matchup against the Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. In their second ACC contest of the season, the Cavaliers (11-3, 1-1) lost to Duke 3-1 (30-27, 32-30, 23-30, 30-24).
Despite freshman Sarah Kirkwood's school record of 83 attack attempts in the match, the Blue Devils triumphed behind an advantage in hitting percentage (.196 to .143) and kills (76 to 62).
Virginia's next match is scheduled for this Friday against North Carolina in Chapel Hill at 7 p.m
