University of Florida head football coach Ron Zook will be fired at the season's end, Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley announced on Monday.
According to the Gainesville Sun, Foley and University President Bernie Machen met Sunday and decided it was time for Zook to go.
The head coached directed the Gators to their first loss to a team with a losing record Saturday, when Florida was defeated by Mississippi State -- a 24.5 point underdog -- 38-31. Zook has compiled a 20-13 record in his two-and-a-half years as head coach.
Zook was criticized by Foley in mid-September after he went to a university fraternity and threatened brothers that he would take down their house, according to school police. The head coach went to the house to diffuse an argument between fraternity brothers and football players, but "let his emotions get the best of him," Foley said, and the Gainesville Sun reported.
Zook will remain the head coach for the rest of the season and is due $450,000 per year for the four years remaining on his contract.
