Pro-Palestinian conference at Duke ends without incident

Despite protests by Israeli supporters and a bomb threat called into police, the three-day conference of the Palestinian Solidarity Movement at Duke University ended peacefully Sunday, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.

Tensions rose and violent protests were feared, but 400 participants attended the event and called on universities to "divest their portfolios of stock in companies that do business with Israel," the Chronicle reported.

The online news publication said 92,000 people had signed a petition opposing the event.

University officials estimated the security cost for the conference between $30,000 and $60,000.
