The Motion Picture Association of America announced it will follow the Recording Industry Association of America's lead and sue people who illegally trade movies online, according to a report in The Chronicle of Higher Education.
The MPAA lawsuits, which began Tuesday, could target college students trading movies on their universities' networks. In the past, the MPAA has sent cease-and-desist orders to universities that identify movie files being traded illegally and demanding their removal from the college's network.
By obtaining students' names from subpoenas sent to their Internet service providers, the RIAA has sued 200 students at over 70 college and universities, according to the Chronicle.
