Wrestling falls to North Carolina in dual meet

For the second time in as many weeks, the Virginia wrestling team lost to the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. North Carolina (3-2, 2-0 ACC) won the contest Friday by a score of 25-12 to follow up on its Jan. 14 win, 25-9.

Virginia (3-6, 0-2 ACC) fell behind 15-0 early in the meet as North Carolina took the first four matches. After the Cavaliers rallied to pull within three points at 15-12, North Carolina took the final three bouts to seal the victory.

Down 15-0, Paul Bjorlo won the 157-pound match for Virginia to cut into the Tar Heels' lead. After pins by Virginia's Will Durkee and Rocco Caponi, the Cavaliers trailed by only three. North Carolina, however, picked up a 14-5 major decision at the 184-pound level to push the Tar Heels' lead to 22-12.

Next on the slate for the Cavaliers are the Kent State Golden Flashes. Virginia will travel to Ohio for the non-conference dual meet Jan. 29. The Cavaliers make the short trip to Columbus, Ohio Jan. 30 for another non-conference match against the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers.
