Inter-Fraternity Council elects new officers

Last night the final seven chairman positions of the 16-member Inter-Fraternity Council for the 2005-2006 year were elected.

Outgoing IFC President David Bowman said the outgoing IFC governing board and the 32 fraternity presidents selected the new governing board.

The election was held in two parts. Nine members elected last week include the five executives: Ross Kimbel was electd president, Dom Genest was elected vice president for judiciaryt, Mile Clements was elected vice president for membership, Derek Wilson was elected vice president for party patrol and Devon Nixon was elected vice president for administration. Four other chairman positions also were filled: chairman for membership intake Andrew Paradis, chairman for membership education Jeremy Polluck, public relations spokesperson Todd Hinckley and secretary/treasurer Mike Bilger.

Nat Frager was selected as chairman for community service, John Harkess was selected chairman for faculty relations and scholarship, Devon Battiston was selected as chairman for alumni relations, Bernard Harkless was selected as chairman for diversity outreach, Cook Wylly was selected as chairman for inter-greek relations, Tripp Rice was selected as chairman for housing and physical development and Matt Heitz was selected as publications chairman.

There were no uncontested races and some positions had up to 13 candidates vying for an office.

"Turnout for registration this year was unbelievable," IFC president-elect, Ross Kimbel said.

Most of the candidates were second or third years, but there were a few first years that tried their hand at the ballot, Kimbel said.

"There was an excellent cross-section from classes," he said. "It's exciting to see the future and depth of IFC governing."

In addition to the seven chairmen elected last night, the five IFC executive positions and four other chairman positions were elected last Thursday.

"I think they're an outstanding group of gentlemen that will bring experience as well as new ideas to the IFC," said Bowman.

Members will serve until March 1 of next year and formally take their positions next Tuesday.

"The transition meeting will take place in the dome room of the Rotunda where past chapter, current chapter, past governing board members and current governing board members will convene," Kimbel said. "David Bowman, the outgoing president will give a speech, and after I'll make one. These speeches complete the transition."
