What makes you a competent and qualified candidate?
I want to continue my involvement with Class Councils as President of the Class of 2006 Trustees. I have been a member of Second and Third Year Councils and I am the current President of Third Year Council. My dedication to the class and desire to build a strong University community are my best qualifications for the job.
In your opinion, what are the most pressing issues facing the University and how would you use your office to deal with them?
In my opinion, the lack of monetary support for higher education from the Commonwealth of Virginia is the greatest threat to the University. Only through alumni support has the University been able to maintain both its high level of education and its status as an elite institution. As the President of the Fourth Year Trustees, it will be my job to work with the other Trustees to enhance the U.Va. experience for the class so that we form strong bonds with the University--allowing us to become more active and caring alumni after we graduate from the University.
How will you maintain contact with your constituency and ensure transparency in your actions?
Choosing a diverse and involved group of Trustees is the best way to represent the Class of 2006. Also, I plan next year to continue a program from Third Year Council that allows members of the class to give feedback on all Trustees programs, as well as request their own programs, through our Web site at www.uva2006.com.
Why did you decide to run for office?
Too often students associate themselves with their own organizations and groups, rather than with the University community. I think there is no better way to give back to the University than to help foster a stronger sense of community within the student body and the position of President of the Class of 2006 Trustees will allow me to achieve this goal.
