Current Office:Student Council Representative
What makes you a competent and qualified candidate?
I previously served as a representative for Student Council, so I have an understanding of the procedures required to conduct the meetings. The office of executive vice president requires me to ensure that all opinions are expressed at a meeting, but I will remain receptive to student concerns as I have in the past and will make sure that the representatives are aware of these concerns through informal channels if I feel they are not already.
In your opinion, what are the most pressing issues facing the University and how would you use your office to deal with them?
Student safety is always a concern, and to this end I propose an initiative for future students to have a student ID number that is different from their social security number. My primary duty would be to chair Student Council meetings and promote efficiency, and I promise to use my past experiences with parliamentary procedure to foresee and prevent problems that could extend meetings for hours on end.
How will you maintain contact with your constituency and ensure transparency in your actions?
I have actively supported online voting records for Student Council since the first legislation was proposed last semester, and will continue to do so until such a system is implemented. If elected, I intend to motion for a roll call vote on legislation so that there will be a record in the Student Council minutes in the meantime.
Why did you decide to run for office?
I was a Student Council representative for the College of Arts and Sciences last semester. After my term was over, I became active in the Legislative Affairs Committee over the winter break.I decided that the best way to continue my commitment to Student Council was to pursue a position on the executive board, and that it would put me in a better position to carry out some of my initiatives.
