Mock Trial places second in division

The U.Va. Collegiate Mock Trial A-Team placed second in its division at the Stetson National Tournament held in St. Petersburg, Fla. over Spring Break, according to Benjamin Sachs, a team member.

"This was one of the most competitive tournaments that had teams from all across the country," Sachs said.

Due to the A-Team's placement in St. Petersburg, a tournament that hosted about 50 teams, the team has advanced to the National Championship which will take place in Des Moines, Iowa in April, Mock Trial President Lauren Park said.

Both Samantha Bateman and Lauren Charneski received outstanding attorney awards, and Steven Bau received an outstanding witness award, Lauren Park said.

The team, which placed 14th at last year's national championship, hopes to surpass its former rank in Iowa's tournament, Park said.

"We are really looking forward to traveling to Iowa with hopes of placing first in the nation," Sachs said.
