In the final meeting of the 2004-2005 academic year, Student Council swore in new Council officials and passed four pieces of legislation regarding space allocations, committee chairs and Council's summer budget.
Council swore in Vice President of Administration-elect Okey Udumaga, Executive Vice President-elect Darius Nabors and President-elect Jeaquetta Upton. Vice President of Organizations Rebecca Keyworth will serve another term on Council. Keyworth said she looks forward to more success with the appropriations process next year.
Outgoing Executive Vice President Whitney Garrison said she also was pleased with Council's past year.
"I made a promise to make voting records public so things are transparent, and that is excellent," Garrison said.
Nabors praised Garrison's handling of Council meetings.
"Meetings have gotten a lot better and a lot less tense, and that's to [Garrison's] credit," Nabors said.
Outgoing President Noah Sullivan said he thinks Council did well what they set out to do.
"First housing and the creation of a Web site has been an immediate success," Sullivan said. "It was a service desperately needed."
Sullivan said the charter initiative, now called higher education restructuring, was also an issue Council had to face.
"Without our efforts, it would have been more difficult for the administration," Sullivan said.
Council also sought to improve diversity around Grounds, Sullivan said.
"We struggled with finding a role for Student Council in attacking diversity issues," Sullivan said. "We've had a great success this year. It's the people on Student Council that make it a success."
The first resolution Council unanimously passed was to approve space allocations for certain Contracted Independent Organizations, including University-run publications.
Council also passed a resolution to approve appointed executive officers and appoint committee chairs.
"I'm really excited to continue the great work of [outgoing Head of Academic Affairs Committee] Daniel Young and hit the ground running for next year and continue to serve my fellow students," said Diego Diaz, new head of the Academic Affairs Committee. "We hope to continue promoting Course Evaluations to benefit both students and faculty."
Lastly, Council unanimously approved its summer budget, which was similar to last year's budget, Upton said.
