Two dormitories in the McCormick Road Residence Area were evacuated Friday evening after a package emitting a mysterious ticking sound was received in the mailroom of Page dormitory.
According to University Police Capt. Mike Coleman, the package was received around 4:30 p.m. Students in both Page and Emmet dormitories were subsequently evacuated at 5:15 p.m.
Virginia State Police bomb technicians were contacted about the package, which was later discovered to contain an alarm clock, according to a University Police Department spokesperson.
Once the contents of the package were known and deemed harmless, police officers allowed students to return to their dormitories after Virginia State Police cleared the scene at 8 p.m, according to the University Police spokesperson.
