Chances pass Cavs by -- no ifs, ands or buts

So much for Virginia's win over Florida State saving the dadgum season.

The post-game media notes at Kenan Memorial Stadium said all that needed to be said about Virginia's performance Saturday.

"Just one game after allowing a school-record 69 points at Louisville, the Tar Heels held Virginia to five points. This was the fewest points allowed by the Tar Heels since a 38-3 win at Clemson on Oct. 20, 2001."

Then, the second bullet on the list.

"Carolina's 7-5 win marked the fewest points by the Tar Heels in a win since a 7-3 victory over Wake Forest on October 23, 1971 (almost 34 years to the day)."

If you're going to go down, you might as well go down in history.

Virginia (4-3, 2-3 ACC) is now 0-for-3 in conference road games.

This one should have been different.

So many blown chances. So many missed opportunities. So many "ifs."

If ... Virginia hadn't waited until the game's 20th minute to register its first first-down.

If ... Marques Hagans' pass near the end of the second quarter had hit Michael Johnson in the end zone, rather than the back of UNC linebacker Jeff Longhany's helmet
