Man arrested for seven burglary counts

The Albemarle County Police arrested a man Wednesday and charged him with several burglary offenses in the area.

Albemarle County Police Lt. John Teixeira said Elijah Edmunson, Jr., was charged with robbery, grand larceny, five charges of uttering and forgery of stolen checks and felony grand larceny, all in the Charlottesville area.

Teixeira declined to give specific details about how the arrest was made, but said both City and County detectives were involved in the case.

"It was outstanding police work by the detectives of both the City and County police departments," Teixeira said.

Edmunson's most recent charge was an Oct. 16 robbery at the Tiger Fuel Exxon station on Mill Creek Drive, Teixeira said.

Edmunson was charged with grand larceny for burglarizing a residence on 1448 Richmond Road earlier this month. He also was charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny at Absolute Plumbing Oct. 2.

The police are relieved the local search for Edmunson has ended, Teixeira said.

"We've been investigating cases for several months in Albemarle County," Teixiera said.

Charlottesville Police Sgt. Joe Hatter said he does not know if Edmunson was ever on or near University Grounds.

"To my knowledge there was never any concern that he was near the University," Hatter said.

Hatter said he was also satisfied with Edmunson's apprehension.

"We were able to clear several crimes by arresting him," Hatter said. "He was charged with those crimes, and obviously it's a good thing any time we get anybody off the street."
