Employee annual drive donations increase

The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign reported an increase in annual drive donations, with the University making its largest contribution in the history of its participation in the CVC.

The CVC is a state government initiative that allows state employees the chance to donate to charities. Overall, the campaign raised $4.46 million this year, CVC director Anne Dinterman said.

"The CVC is the only workplace giving campaign that allows employees to give through payroll deduction," Dinterman said.

The University's division of the CVC reported $688,000 in donations for 2005, the highest in University history, said Ida Lee Wootten, director of community relations and chair of the CVC at the University.

The 2005 CVC drive at the University raised $40,000 more than the 2004 campaign, she said.

The University has participated in and has annually increased its donations to the CVC since its creation in 1997, Wootten said.

"At U.Va every fall, each vice presidential unit selects a campaign leader and that group of campaign leaders works with over 300 volunteers throughout the University who distribute campaign materials to full-time salaried employees," Wootten said. "Employees had the choice of over 1,400 charities
