Jennifer Merritt, a former Education School faculty research associate, was appointed director of mentoring and diversity for the University’s Women’s Center this summer.
Merritt was selected from a pool of about 80 applicants by both current employees of the Women’s Center and of the University at large, said Claire Kaplan, center director of sexual and domestic violence services. Kaplan also served as a member of the search committee responsible for filling the position, which considered the pool of applicants for three months.
“She has the unusual compilation of skills that works perfectly in this position,” Kaplan said, adding that the directorial position entails many responsibilities relating to the Women’s Center’s programs. “We are very pleased to have her join us.”
The Director of Mentoring and Diversity serves as the co-director for the Young Women Leaders program and is responsible for organizing events and the internship program at the Women’s Center, Kaplan said. She added that Merritt also will teach an internship course offered through the Women’s Center.
“We think she’s going to bring a wonderful new voice on our staff and great ideas ... as well as help us expand and strengthen our program,” Kaplan said.
Merritt will start part-time this fall and assume her position full-time in the spring semester, Kaplan said.
As of press time, Merritt could not be reached for comment.
