Team enters Pirate Classic

Squad expects tough pitching at East Carolina tournament this weekend

The Virginia softball team looks to test its hot start against three tough pitchers at the East Carolina Pirate Classic this weekend.

The Cavaliers (4-0) play Fordham (0-0) twice, so they will most likely meet the Rams' star senior pitcher Jen Mineau, a Second-Team Pre-Season All-American pick by ESPN.com. Last year, Mineau was named a First-Team Pre-Season All-American and lived up to that projection with two no-hitters, including a perfect game, while setting the school record for strikeouts and wins.

The Cavaliers also face Louisville (5-0), Hofstra (0-0) and UNC Greensboro (0-5) during the tournament. Hofstra's standout junior pitcher Olivia Galati joins Mineau on the 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year top-50 watch list. Galati has been Hofstra's ace since
