Cavs post strong showing at Texas, Raleigh Relays

Mihaljevic, Visokay break school freshman records

Virginia track and field continued its season with two meets this weekend: the Texas Relays and Raleigh Relays. The Cavaliers set a slew of personal bests and put up solid results while facing some of nation’s best teams.

Competing in Austin, freshman Filip Mihaljevic continued his assault on the throwing events. He won his section of the shot put with a throw of 59-6 1/4 — a personal best and the third farthest heave in program history.

Mihaljevic also set a new personal record in the discus after a throw of 198-2. This mark is second best in the school record book and broke the freshman record he set only a week ago.

Two Virginia athletes found success in the triple jump. Graduate student Dallas Rose cleared 42-5 1/4, which was good for third place, while Junior Ryan Satchell won his flight of the triple jump with a 51-0 mark.

Meanwhile in Raleigh, the distance runners did not disappoint. Redshirt freshman Adam Visokay set a Virginia freshman record in the 10000m run with a time of 29:14.50 which placed him third in the race.

Freshman Maria Hauger ran a 16:14.18 in the 1500m. This mark is second-best by a freshman and ranks sixth all-time.

Junior Sarah DeVita finished second in the pole vault in Raleigh after vaulting a personal best 11’ 5.75”.

Virginia returns home next Saturday for a tri-meet with California and Michigan.
