Pat Lampkin wins Curry Distinguished Alumna Award

Executive vice president 1986 Curry School graduate

The Education School selected Patricia Lampkin, vice president and chief student affairs officer, as the recipient of its 2014 Distinguished Alumna Award for her exemplary work and dedication to the University.

Lampkin received a doctorate of education from the Education School in 1986.

“I have come to know Pat Lampkin very well over the last several years, and I greatly admire her profound dedication to the students of this university during the course of her long service here,” University President Teresa Sullivan said in an official press release announcing the award. “She is a great mentor and source of advice and personal counsel.”

Lampkin’s career at the University has spanned a total of 35 years, starting in 1979 when she was chosen as assistant director for student services. Lampkin was eventually appointed associate director for student services in 1984, assistant dean of students in 1985, associate dean of students in 1987 and associate vice president for student affairs in 1995. She began her current position in 2002.

The Curry School Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes alumni of any Education School program who has made numerous commendable contributions to their profession.

Associate Education Prof. Brian Pusser said Lampkin has helped to establish the University as a leader in student affairs.

“She is entirely dedicated to the students and the way they fulfill their time at the University,” he said. “Her work and her benevolence has been an example of the wonderful members that are a part of Curry.”

Lampkin has also served as an adjunct professor within the Education School’s Center for the Study of Higher Education.

“Pat Lampkin embodies every value we hold for Curry graduates,” Education School Dean Robert Pianta said in the press release. “Her contributions to the public and community, her exceptional professionalism, her exemplary leadership and her compassion and dedication are each enough to deserve this award.”

The Curry School of Education Foundation will present the award to Lampkin at a dinner on Oct. 23.
