Contracted employee Emanuel Brown found dead in New Cabell Hall

Emanuel Brown, a 61-year-old contracted University employee, was pronounced dead Thursday after a student found him unconscious in a men's restroom in the basement of New Cabell Hall.

The student found Brown shortly before 12:30 p.m. After contacting 911, the student flagged down a second student who administered CPR until the paramedics arrived, University Police Lt. Melissa Fielding said.

"Despite those rescue attempts, the victim did not survive," she said.

Brown, who was contracted with a cleaning company, was pronounced dead on the scene. Fielding said the cause was medical.
